Ok, time for another update! Last time I blogged I stated that I had received my medical and dental packet. I have since completed everything required and I have now been medically and dentally cleared! SO... I am all set to receive an invitation in early April! I got an email stating that I was still in the competitive stage as they place two people for each opening and then chose the best candidate for the job. Nerve wracking! Hopefully I get the spot I am best suited for! Either way, what is meant to be will happen. I am excited! I have already started to buy some of the things on the list including waterproof radios, watches, bandanas and dry bags! I have narrowed it down to three countries. Vanuatu, Fiji, and Micronesia. Although, recently the worlds largest marine protected area was declared near Kiribati... so I may be sent there to progress the initial efforts. Who knows... it's just time to wait...

Much needed update!

Wow, ok, I have definitely not been updating this site! I have completed the essays, turned in all of my recommendations, submitted by application, had a phone interview, got nominated for the Pacific Islands, Marine Protected Areas Management, and just went to a Peace Corps party in Birmingham! Wow, I guess I can't complain, everything is going as planned! And I think I have figured out that I will most likely be going to Fiji! I am kind of excited about that! I looked into all of the work areas on the Peace Corps website for the Pacific Islands and Fiji is the only one that seems to have a work area description pertaining to Protected Areas Management. So, yay! If I get to live in Fiji for two years I will be in heaven. I was afraid of living in a remote village with no market/store/vehicle and the islanders wearing (or more like "not wearing") tribal attire. The pictures I found on google showed loin clothes and topless women in Tonga and Vanuatu. I'm not really sure, I guess I would make the best of it! Well, enough for now! I met a lot of really neat people today and I am excited about what lies ahead! Oh yeah, I also got my packet for the health and dental screening so I will be doing that for the next few weeks to further the process. I was told that I would receive a phone call and invitation around the beginning of April and leave mid-June. We will see! Talk to you later! -Me

Application Process and Visit to the Regional Office

Well, today I am going to downtown ATL to visit the regional office that covers about a 7 state area. I am hoping to get brochures and a few questions answered about the process. I will post the questions and answers I receive from the recruiter later today. The application is not too long, but requires two 250-500 word essays and three recommendations, so it may take a few weeks to get the entire app pulled together. I'll keep updates!
